Le Jardin d’Amélie     80"x80"

Inspiration can come from many sources.  I often get inspired by the beautiful view from my deck or from memories of time gone by.  My grandchildren provide a lot of inspiration as they are all very creative and so willing to share their ideas, their drawings, or their creations.

My granddaughter frequently spends time on my computer, designing quilts with my quilt design program. She was the source of inspiration for this quilt pattern, which is named after her.

This quilt design has a total of 25 blocks - 13 star blocks repeated throughout the quilt and 12 blocks that use both appliqué and stitchery (also called embroidery). The appliqué/stitchery blocks have a unique floral design that changes in each of the 12 blocks. I loved the challenge of using both techniques and I think it adds something unique to the quilt.

I also really love the quiet contrast between the red and taupe in the fabrics of this quilt but many other colours would work to create your own unique quilt.  This is one of the many joys of creating quilts – playing with all the colour and fabric combinations.

I made this quilt using Moda “Rouinerres” fabrics which will be reprinted in January, 2010.  I hope you enjoy making this quilt and enjoy the beautiful finished product as much as I did.
